In the first half of 2024, Nick Norvell led a mission on another EU project on climate budgeting as part of an EU Framework contract. While he was there with his colleague Salomon Nsabimana, they had the opportunity to visit the National Park of Ruvubu. park ranger showed them the level of destruction of the habitat by illegal fires. The Park is a habitat to a wide variety of species including leopard but fires are used to corner and capture many of the animals on which larger predator prey. A road passes right through the middle of the park facilitating access to poachers. With few resources, the poachers are unable to control illegal activity with inevitable consequences for the local wildlife. This is clearly not a sustainable situation for the Park as a natural resource, nor for visitor numbers and the income it generates for the country.
Hence, Incub8 has helped design a project to improve the protection for Ruvubu.

- Functional Review of Park Management
