In the first half of 2024, Nick Norvell led a mission on another EU project on climate budgeting as part of an EU Framework contract. While he was there with his colleague Salomon Nsabimana, they had the opportunity to visit the National Park of Ruvubu.  park ranger showed them the level of destruction of the habitat by illegal fires. The Park is a habitat to a wide variety of species including leopard but fires are used to corner and capture many of the animals on which larger predator prey. A road passes right through the middle of the park facilitating access to poachers. With few resources, the poachers are unable to control illegal activity with inevitable consequences for the local wildlife. This is clearly not a sustainable situation for the Park as a natural resource, nor for visitor numbers and the income it generates for the country. Hence, Incub8 has helped design a project to improve the protection for Ruvubu.
  1. Situation analysis of  National Park of Ruvubu.
  2. Functional Review of Park Management
  3. Review of park protection legislation and rules.
  4. This will and support to maintain forest cover and mitigate climate change in Burundi.
  5. Planning and costing
  6. Assessment of scope for carbon credits, biodiversity credits.
Incub8 is teaming up with the Universite Lumiere de Bujumbura in Burundi to plan, design and implement a project to reduce deforestation in its National Park of Ruvubu  and help maintain its biodiversity. It also plans this project in partnership with the Office for the Protection of the Environment of Burundi, OBPE. How can you help? Issues like these is why we have created a fundraising portal which is accessible to everyone, including those in countries such as Burundi. Project funds can be paid out anywhere. In this case, Incub8 is not only providing the platform but is initiating the project too. Hence, we are looking for funds to support the above activities. We are also looking for collaborators and volunteers to drive the project forward. So please get in touch to be part of this exciting project!
